Skills
Please review my résumé and credentials for backup information on the skills listed below.
- Soft Skills: I'm a hard worker with excellent attention to detail. I believe in dealing with other people in a fair, honest, and straightforward manner. I make a point of meeting all my commitments, including project deadlines.
- Bookkeeping:I am a QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor. I studied Accounting for three years in high school, where I was named Outstanding Student in Advanced Accounting during my senior year. I pursued (but did not finish) a Bachelor's degree in Accounting at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. Since that time, I have used my accounting and bookkeeping skills throughout my career. I''m currently working on an Associate's degree in Accounting, with plans to eventually finish a bachelor's or master's degree.
- Grammar and Spelling: I completed Advanced Grammar in high school with a final grade of A. I've continued to excel in grammar and spelling throughout my career. I''m often mildly irritated by the number of grammar and spelling errors made on cable news networks.
- Typing and Data Entry: I've been typing since high school, where I was lucky enough to be assigned to one of the six electric typewriters available. My typing speed is 96 words per minute (WPM) with accuracy, and my data entry speed is well above 10,000 keystrokes per hour (KPH) with accuracy.
- Languages: I speak American English and Southern American English, y'all. I took French in high school, but haven't used it and therefore don't remember much of it.
- Crystal Reports/Business Objects: During my two-year tenure at Coastal Bank and Trust (formerly Vanguard Bank), I served as the Business Objects report writer for 12 branch offices. (Business Objects is very similar to Crystal Reports.) I also taught a Business Objects class to bank employees.
- Databases/Microsoft Access: I''ve been using Access since 2000. During my time at The Business Resource Center, and again at Coastal Bank and Trust, I mastered and successfully used advanced features of Access. I even used Visual Basic code to extend the functionality of the program. At both organizations, I was required to take over databases created by individuals with a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science. I executed these assignments with great success. At Coastal Bank and Trust, I completely overhauled the loan officer incentive reporting system, which consisted of a combination of data entry into Excel spreadsheets and import into Access. I used my Business Objects skills to write reports that pulled the necessary data straight from the bank's systems. I then imported this data into Excel for review. Next, I completely overhauled the Access database used to generate the incentive reports so that the Excel data could be imported straight into database and the incentive reports generated. My new system eliminated all data entry tasks, drastically reduced errors, and significantly shortened the reporting process. I also worked with the system administrator to setup a virtual drive for publishing incentive reports in PDF format. Previously, these multi-page incentive reports were printed and copied, then distributed to 40+ individuals by hand. The new virtual drive made possible the instanteous delivery of reports upon completion and/or revision.
- Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint: I've been using these programs since 1998, and I am a Master Microsoft Office User. That means I passed an expert-level exam in both Excel and Word, as well as an intermediate-level exam in PowerPoint and Access, with a score of 80 or better.
- Other Computer Skills: I''m very computer and internet literate. I've been using personal computers since the early 1980's, when they first became available. As mentioned above, I''m a Master Microsoft Office Specialist. I'm also a Certified Internet Web Profesisonal (CIW), which required a score of 80 or better on an exam covering computing networking fundamentals, internet function/structure, and web design. I've designed 25+ websites, many of which are no longer live. I execute all the web design and maintenance tasks for my business websites. In addition, I build/repair computers and manage my office computer network.
